Disney Announces 3D Re-release of ‘The Lion King’

Walt Disney Pictures has just confirmed the theatrical release of the studio’s 1994 animated classic “The Lion King”  in digital 3D on 16th September, 2011. It will be a limited re-release for two weeks followed by the release of Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D on October 4th.

It was first reported last summer that Disney was in the process of converting The Lion King to 3D for an eventual theatrical release. At first, Disney was planning to cash in on the 3D craze by re-releasing Beauty and the Beast, but then it got pushed back into oblivion as Disney switched to The Lion King.
