Meera marriage case: High Court issues notice to actress

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Monday issued notice to film actress Meera on the petition of Attiqur Rehman, who claims to be her husband.

The petition challenged an order of a civil court that had dismissed his application for a medical examination of the actress to determine her virginity.

The court also barred the civil court from deciding the jactitation of marriage suit filed by Meera till the next date of hearing, June 29.

The appellant, Rehman, submitted that the civil judge dismissed his application ignoring the factual position and now was proceeding with the main case.

He said the medical examination of Meera was essential to decide the main case. He prayed the court to allow a medical examination of the respondent and also sought a stay order in the proceedings of the jactitation of marriage suit.

Rehman had filed an application in response to the suit from Meera wherein she accused Rehman of preparing a fake marriage certificate showing her as his wife only to grab her property.

Meera said she had no relations with Rehman but he was blackmailing her by claiming to be her husband. She requested the civil court to cancel the nikahnama possessed by Rehman and initiate proceedings against him.

During cross examination of witnesses, Rehman had questioned Meera’s virginity. Meera had claimed that she was still a virgin and had not contracted any marriage. Rehman filed an application and requested the court to constitute a medical board in order to determine Meera’s virginity.
