Gilani asks for China energy investment

BEIJING: Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on Thursday called on Chinese firms to invest in Pakistan’s energy sector, in a bid to boost a moribund economy hit by massive floods last year and a weak Western investment.

“There is great potential for the participation of Chinese corporations in the development of the energy sector in Pakistan. This includes hydro, thermal and renewable energy,” Gilani told a joint business forum in Beijing.

Loadshedding continues to make life miserable

KARACHI: The country is going through tough times as prolonged loadshedding has made life miserable throughout the country where as many infectious diseases like gastro are affecting people in different areas.

The highest temperature of 49 degrees was recorded in Dadu, Sindh on Wednesday, where as Hyderabad is facing relentless loadshedding for 8-10 hours. Other areas of Sindh such as Thatta, Nawabshah, Mirpur Khas, Sukkur, Jaccobabad are also facing prolonged power outages along with the increased temperatures.

PCB removes Shahid Afridi as ODI team captain

KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board has removed Shahid Afridi as one-day captain for the forthcoming series against Ireland.

Chairman of the board Ijaz Butt told a media conference in Islamabad that senior batsman Misbah-ul-Haq would lead the team in the two one-day matches against Ireland on May 28 and 30.

'Somebody' in Pakistan knew about Osama: US

WASHINGTON: US Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Wednesday that "somebody" in Pakistan knew Osama bin Laden was hiding in the country but there was no proof that Islamabad leaders were aware.

"My supposition is, somebody knew," Gates told a news conference.

 LAHORE: An official website of University of Punjab (PU) has been hacked on late Wednesday night, Geo News reported.

The hacker group named "Student Alliance" left a message on the site page, inscribing 'Save Higher Education Commission' (HEC).
